Medical Uses
Oncaspar (Pegaspargase) is an asparagine specific enzyme used as a component of a multi-agent chemotherapeutic regimen for treatment of patients with:
- First line acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
- Acute lymphoblastic leukemia and hypersensitivity to asparaginase.
Warning & Precautions
- Observe patients for 60 minutes after administration of oncaspar 3750 in a setting with resuscitation equipment and other agents necessary to treat anaphylaxis (for example, oxygen, epinephrine, intravenous steroids, antihistamines).
- Severe thrombotic events, including sagittal sinus thrombosis can occur in patients receiving pegaspargase injection. Discontinue it in patients with serious thrombotic events.
- Pancreatitis may develop in patients receiving Oncaspar. Assess patients with abdominal pain for evidence of pancreatitis. Discontinue oncaspar injection in patients with pancreatitis.
- Glucose intolerance may develop in patients with the therapy of Oncaspar. In some cases, glucose intolerance is irreversible.
- Patients with pegaspargase dosage should be monitored for coagulation parameters at baseline and periodically while on and following treatment.
